In December, Senator Harry Reid attempted to push through a bill that would have regulated online poker in the US, but Conservative lawmakers shot down the legislation. With Conservatives now controlling the House, it is unlikely any new laws will be passed that would regulate online gambling.
States, however, have taken the matter into their own hands. Earlier this month, New Jersey legislators created a law that allows Atlantic City casinos to offer online casinos. The lawmakers were looking for a way to help their struggling land-based casino industry.
