Las Vegas By the end of this year, gamblers that travel to Las Vegas may no longer have to freshen up and head downstairs to the casino in order to gamble. These gamblers will have the luxury of turning on their televisions, and playing their favorite casino games.
That is because a bill has advanced through the state Legislature that would allow gambling anywhere in the casino resorts in Nevada. The bill has been passed out of committee, and if it becomes law, the legislation will be in effect by October.
That would mean that the days of live card games and slots could be coming to an end. While the land-based casino business will not completely evaporate, every movement towards online gambling takes people another step out of the casinos.
In the case of the Nevada bill, it is the land-based casinos in Las Vegas that stand to gain the most. The casinos will soon be able to give vacationers the option of betting from their hotel room, or the swimming pool area. Convenience has clearly taken precedence over social interaction.
"People these days want instant gratification, with the least amount of effort," said Kelly Burns, a vacationer who we caught up with outside the Rio in Las Vegas. "I know I would definitely gamble from my hotel room if I had the opportunity. This way, I wouldn't have to go and get all dressed up to gamble. I could just do it while laying on my hotel bed."
That sentiment is shared by millions of gamblers who have had their main source of online gratification taken away in recent months. The US crackdown on online poker has left millions of players with no place to enjoy their favorite hobby. The bill in Nevada would be a step in the direction of the elimination of Internet gambling prohibition.
