That start date for the trial period was late July, and politicians are not coming off that date. There has been pressure put on by several different opposition groups, but the City Council believes they have taken the necessary precautions to ensure the games are played in a safe and fair manner.

While other areas of the country were debating whether to regulate online gambling late last year, the DC City Council allowed a deadline to pass for objection or removal of the online casino plan. When the deadline passed, the issue started to receive a lot of attention, both locally and nationally.

Poker, bingo, and blackjack will be the first games unveiled to customers at the online casino. By the third week in August, six additional games will be rolled out, and when the calendar turns to September, the real money version of the casino will go live.

Strict rules have been put in place for customers. Originally, any gambler playing at the online casino will not be permitted to deposit more than $250 in a week. That will ensure that high stakes games are not played on the site.

Gamblers will be allowed to gamble more than the $250 per week, should they win with their initial deposit. The betting limit is similar to what several foreign countries have in place to control problem gambling. To keep young adults from developing any gambling debt, the DC Council has set an age limit of nineteen.

Only residents of DC will be allowed to gamble with real money on the site. Technology has been developed that will alert regulators of any outside gamblers attempting to access the online casino, and their requests will be denied.
