Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon thinks he may have a solution to help with the growing health care crisis in the US. Wyden has proposed an amendment to an already proposed Bill that would use online casino gambling revenue for health care reform.

Earlier this year, Representative Barney Frank proposed the Internet Regulation, Consumer Protection Act. If that Bill is approved by lawmakers it would set up a regulated Internet gambling system in the US. The Bill would also overturn the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006.

Senator Wyden was looking for a way that the health care debate could be softened in Congress and he came up with his amendment to Frank's Bill. A PricewaterhouseCoopers study revealed that over $60 billion would be generated by regulating Internet gambling, and that is money that could go towards health care.

"We applaud Senator Wyden's proposal to collect and put to good use tens of billions in Internet gambling revenue that would otherwise be lost in the underground marketplace," said Michael Waxman, Spokesperson for the Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative."

Rep. Frank has been telling his fellow members of Congress for years that a regulated Internet gambling industry would bring the US millions of dollars in revenue. Frank also had the people of the US in mind when he called for Internet gambling regulations to protect online gamblers from shady gaming operations.
