Rep. Barney Frank
Rep. Barney Frank
It has been a bittersweet year for online casinos when it comes to the US. The country has actively gone after several online companies, while at the same time, members of Congress were working towards changing Internet gambling laws.

Representative Barney Frank has been at the front of the push for regulated online gambling in the US since the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act was conceived back in December of 2006.

Since then, Frank has attempted to overturn the law, but in 2008 Frank's efforts were turned away from a largely Republican legislature. In 2009, Frank again proposed legislation to overturn the UIGEA.

Time ran out on the lawmaker and his allies to get the Bill passed in 2009, but the sixty-three representatives that signed on as co-sponsors for Frank's legislation will be pushing for a resolution in 2010.

The problem for Frank and other online gambling supporters is that 2010 is an election year. many lawmakers will want to steer clear of controversy to protect their seats, and that could lead to doom for Frank's Bill.

In the meantime, online casinos wait and wonder. Will 2010 be the year that the US finally overturns the ill-advised UIGEA, or will they have to wait even longer to get a piece of the biggest online gambling market in the world?
