Rep. Barney Frank There have been positive steps towards regulations of the Internet gambling industry in the US in 2009, and now as the year ends online casinos are looking towards 2010 as the year when the regulations finally get put in place.
The online casino industry has been somewhat attacked by the new administration in the US in 2009. That is not exactly what the industry was anticipating when President Obama took office early in the year.
Although the administration has carried out the existing laws in the country by seizing bank accounts related to online gambling payouts, the future of the industry still looks bright. While carrying out the laws that have been left to them to enforce, the administration also took steps in 2009 towards Internet gambling regulations.
Representative Barney Frank has proposed two pieces of legislation that are working their way through Congress. The first eliminates the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, while the second lays the foundation for regulations in the country.
Frank has many more supporters than he did in 2008 when he attempted to overturn the UIGEA. The representative from Massachusetts already has over sixty co-sponsors for his Internet gambling regulations bill.
As 2009 comes to a close this evening, online casinos are hoping to say goodbye to outdated laws in the US. They await a prosperous 2010, one in which a regulated system protects the integrity of their industry.
