Rep. Barney Frank The year 2010 may be remembered in history as the year that the US finally put an end to the prohibition of online gambling. Many states are moving closer to legalizing and regulating online casinos, and people in the US cannot wait.
"I think it's ridiculous that we cannot freely play at online casinos without having to worry about whether the casino will take our credit cards," said Mike Belder, "Hopefully soon, we will just be able to play at these casinos in peace."
The US, as a whole, may soon regulate Internet gambling, Representative Barney Frank introduced legislation last year that would overturn the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006.
If successful, lawmakers would begin to formulate a plan to ensure that all online gamblers in the US are allowed to use online casinos that are highly monitored. Currently, millions of US residents are having to trust overseas companies.
In addition to the federal government's efforts to regulate Internet gambling, local lawmakers are also considering law changes in their own states. Iowa, Florida, New jersey, and California are all states that have been linked to some form of legalized online betting.
The road to a free gambling community in the US now appears more clear than ever. The question now is when, not if, and gamblers all across the country are waiting patiently for the first shoe to drop.
