DirecTV In this day and age, gamblers have many different ways of finding out whether they have won or lost a bet. For some gamblers, the preferred method is to record the game they have wagered on, and then watch it at a later time in its entirety.
These type gamblers were sent into a panic on Tuesday morning if they recorded the games using DirecTV. The company experienced a technical glitch that had many customers stuck on one channel for an extended period of time. Thousands of concerned customers flooded the DirecTV customer service lines.
The company, by late in the afternoon on Tuesday, had assured customers that the glitch was corrected, and that no further problems were anticipated. Still, that did not leave some loyal customers happy.
"I have been a DirecTV customer for years and I have never had a problem like the one I had this morning," said Gary Eagan. "I was just watching a ballgame, and all of a sudden, my television screen froze on me. I work at night, so it was disturbing that I couldn't watch the rest of the game before I had to sleep."
DirecTV had better hope that the glitch does not reoccur this weekend. The World Cup begins on Friday, and with several games a day, many fans will be recording the games that they cannot watch live.
Gambling on this year's World Cup is expected to be in the billions of dollars. Sports books all across the world are bracing for what they believe will be a large volume of bets starting with Saturday's much anticipated US, England, game.
