What was originally thought to be a traffic problem turned out to be a security breach. Last week, just hours after the PlayNow.com online casino was launched, it was shut down by its operators, and the real reason came out on Tuesday.

The B.C. Lottery Corp. did not give an official announcement as to why the site was shut down last Thursday, but speculation was that there was too many customers trying to gain access to the site. It was a logical conclusion for a province where gamblers had been waiting years to play casino games online.

On Tuesday, however, the B.C. Lottery Corp. President Mike Graydon announced that what had in fact happened, was twelve players had their personal information available to other players online. The security breach is one the lottery has not taken lightly, and the site has been shut down ever since the problem was detected.

"I want to play blackjack and other games online, but I am not going to do so if there is a chance my information will be shared," said Maurice Bernard. "I have waited this long, I can wait a few more days until the glitch is fixed."

Lottery officials are hoping that the fix will come in time to re-launch the site by the end of this week. One thing that they have asserted is that no gambling will be done until the problem is completely corrected. There were suggestions that the glitch happened because the site was rushed, but officials deny that claim.

"We had three months of testing in place," said Graydon, as reported by The Province,  "We really worked the system hard, we were not rushed whatsoever by anyone."
